The structure of this book, as well as the structure found in the syllabus of the Philosophy and Contemporary Issues course, is divided into three main parts.
The first part, which covers chapters one and two, is about philosophy in the national context, in particular the philosophy found in the National Principles (Rukun Negara) and also the National Philosophy of Education (FPK). This is as to fulfill one of the goals of this course, which is the teaching of philosophy in the context of nation building, and not as pure philosophy. The second part covering from chapter three to six, is about philosophical concepts as found in the major branches of philosophical studies such as logic, metaphysics and epistemology. It aims to introduce students to the philosophical way of thinking, where there are elements such as logical and analytical thinking, and points of view from various perspectives on basic things such as the concept of man, nature of knowledge, reality of existence and so on. The third part which is the final section, consists of chapters seven and eight in which current issues such as ideology, contemporary thought, and decolonization are discussed by applying philosophical thinking.
